Materials Sandbox field notes
Compound discovery vs. reaction prediction
Finding records that contain selected elements is different from predicting what a physical mixture will become.
Why it matters
The distinction keeps a useful search interface from making a scientifically unsupported promise.
More precise language
A chemical-system query retrieves indexed compositions. Reaction outcomes additionally require starting amounts, phases, temperature, pressure, atmosphere, free-energy data, and often kinetic or process models.
Use in the sandbox
Look for the model label.
Every result should identify its evidence type and conditions. If those are absent, the result is incomplete.
